Librivox recording of the Golden mean to 5000 digits by Jerry Bonnell and Robert Nemiroff. Read by Justin Barrett, braindouche, Cow Nose the 50 Pound Cat, Sibella Denton, Esther and Andrew Lebrun. The golden section is a line segment sectioned into two according to the golden ratio. The total length a+b is to the longer segment a as a is to the shorter segment b. In mathematics and the arts, two quantities are in the golden ratio if the ratio between the sum of those quantities and the larger...

Grab Bag is the collection of five songs where the piano takes the lead vocal, where chords and harmonics have equal or bigger weight than the melodic lines. As in "The Crowd", each instrument has its particular line, more or less remote from the main theme, and as a whole, the global set shows more than the sum of its parts. Different open chords, adding up, give depth to these imperfect "homemade" recordings. You can hear open-tuned acoustic guitars played from the couch,...

LibriVox recording of Man: King of Mind, Body, and Circumstance by James Allen. Read in English by Andrea Fiore. The problem of life consists in learning how to live. It is like the problem of addition or subtraction to the schoolboy. When mastered, all difficulty disappears, and the problem has vanished. All the problems of life, whether they be social, political, or religious, subsist in ignorance and wrong-living. As they are solved in the heart of each individual, they will be solved in the...

Based in Girona, Spain, and with a musical background orbiting around jazz, funk, groove and ska, Ramacod (Ramon Macià) has created a mental musical salad that he tries to explore and exploit in every release. His productions are heavily based on a cut-n-paste, microsampling technique, always pursuing that magical moment when apparently diverse an unconnected sound samples earn a new life when put together, and the music that emerges becomes more than the sum of its parts. In recent years, the New Wave of New Wave has been awash with eighties-esque Wave-Rock. Many occasional and one-hit wonders have drained into something between pop and rip-off, leaving fans with tailored-for-MTV retro-imitations and other The-Cure-wannabes. A true trailblazer comes in the shape of a band from Cologne, Germany. With two highly regarded albums and several singles, 'The SlimP” have caused a stir both in and outside of the scene. earman072 - Emerald Adrift - The Blue Flower One of the persistent debates in the world of electronic, ambient, and experimental music is what the proper role of theory and training should be, given the limitless frontiers of the canvas and the inherent lack of rules in the genre. Is an experimental artist who has never received formal training in music at a disadvantage or an advantage to one who has? Some claim that theory has the effect of installing mental blinders, causing the artist to...

Calmness in the face of glitchversity is something that Monotonik prizes highly indeed. So when we had the opportunity to release this track from the UK's Xela, who has an album forthcoming on the divine Neo-Ouija label, plus appearances on material from Musik Aus Strom and Merck.. well, we got straight on the case. The reason "Rainy Afternoons" hits the spot for us is that Harold Budd-esque underlying serenity, but with a carefully cultivated veneer of layer upon layer of stuttering...

Nowhere is this phenomenon felt more than in the area of electronic music, where artists all over the globe routinely collaborate to produce amazing work. This release, entitled 'Ege Denizi', is just such a case. Two of our favorite Earth Mantra artists, Phillip Wilkerson and Gordon Macmillan of...

After kicking around a pile of ideas on what that might be we decided on loosening our grip and opening the gates into the Astor Bell brain. The sum of our contributing artist's work is greater than the label name we put on it. And it is surely...

earman165 - The Omega Core - Massive Black We have oft mentioned how much we enjoy meeting new folks and bringing their music to our listening audience. Today, we have the pleasure of welcoming Matt Shepherd of The Omega Core to our family of artists, with his fascinating release "Massive Black". We find it difficult to categorize this captivating album. Certainly much of the music could be labeled dark ambient, replete with foreboding abstract sound sculpture and baleful waves of...
