Two Italian SP artists come together on the noisy split EP Larve astrali. Taking the odd-numbered tracks is Tommaso Busatto, who last wowed listeners with his eclectic and entertaining EP Annoying Landscapes. His approach is abrasive, but not harsh, giving the tracks a playful vivacity which is so rare in noise music. The even-numbered tracks belong to Pioggia d'ambra, whose stunning album Il triste inverno animico came out back in January. Much like that album, Pioggia d'ambra's method is subtle and contemplative, leaving each track with an emotional weight brimming with perceived malice that never quite bears its teeth. Larve astrali is a great collection by two very talented projects that will leave listeners with the sole complaint that this release leaves one wanting more from both artists, not because the music contained within is lacking, but because it is so good.
